Happy Memorial Day

Memorial Day is a day for reflection and honor for those we have lost in the numerous battles that have been fought for our freedom here & abroad.... To all of those men & women we salute you today & everyday for what you do.

I always love seeing the American flags everywhere on Memorial Day, it makes me smile to see our beautiful flag and know that everyone is remembering our servicemen & women!

Course Memorial Day is like our official kick-off for Summer too.......I thought I would share some more Northern Michigan pics that bring some smiles to my face and hopefully yours. This is one of the first sailboats on the water right outside the cottage........I love seeing the sailboats, so graceful, quiet and just gliding through the water like it was on glass. A geat way to spend a leisurely day, don't you think?

I love this little barn & how it has been painted with the chickens! Adorable....I can't help but smile everytime I drive past it. Could you???

One of our favorite cherry & fruit stands in Old Mission! They have maple syrup out right now but soon there will be quarts of fresh yummy cherries. I can't wait!!!!

This is the roof of a barn on the peninsula that they redid last year....Love the colorful stripes. I always know I am almost to the cottage when I see the colors of the roof when I come over the hilltop, off to the left as you are driving you can see the West Bay of Lake Michigan and cherry trees everywhere! Beautiful sight.......

Stunning Sunsets for Memorial Day Weekend

It seems as though Mother Nature is quite the artist this weekend.......at least here in Northern Michigan! The sunsets since we got to the UpNorth studio have been well beyond beautiful.

I am not sure sometime if we treasure our sunsets so much here in Michigan due to the fact that our winters are so long and we are indoors so much but I do know that we love them! To watch Mother Nature use her paint brush and paint the sky in subtle shade of blues, grays, burnt umbers & sienna only to then as the sun actually sets move on to vibrant shades of reds, oranges & purples and then finally to soft shades of pinks, peaches & lavenders all for our pleasure.

Well it's no wonder we love to sit on the beach at sunset roasting marshmallows & hot dogs....

Amazing how most of these pictures that I took are all in one evening isn't it? I only hope that my pictures are able to do justice to the sunsets of the last 2 nights here at the UpNorth Studio

I love this picture from last night.....the little assistants were sound asleep, everything was quiet and the sky changed colors again so I ran down to take this final shot last night of the sky......no Northern Lights yet but we have a whole summer to look forward to watching the colorful sunsets and then see if we get blessed with a peek at the amazing Northern Lights....

A Shower & A Baby

Well the last week has been a bit exciting! I was invited to a beautiful baby shower for a very dear girlfriend who is like a sister to us. The little assistants call her Aunt Krissy. The shower was absolutely stunning with pink, pink & more pink everywhere you looked! Pink roses, pink peonies, pink hydrangeas, pink cupcakes, pink drinks, well....you get the picture!

This is one of the place settings right before we sat down to eat an amazing herbed chicken salad! Fabulous!! Little Assistant #1 wanted to skip lunch & go straight to the cupcakes!! No surprise there....LOL!

This is our lovely Aunt Krissy & her mom with Little Assistant #2. The shower was beautiful, she was beautiful, sunny spring day here in Michigan despite reports of rain and she got some amazing gifts including a Tiffany child's china set that was just too cute for words!
The little assistants gave the new baby girl to be a pink, purple & white tutu in hopes that they will be able to teach her to dance soon! I didn't have the heart to tell them it was going to be a bit before that happens.........

For dessert they had this adorable cake that just literally took the cake....so cute you didn't want to cut it at all ( course they did)! The cake was filled with fresh raspberries, blackberry's and more with buttercream & whipped cream. My mouth is just watering thinking about it again!

Here is the cake! Don't you love the Teddy Bear, the pillows, the rattler says I love Dad and the Bib says I love Mom........Love the pink fondant coverlet, don't you? Course the lily's of the valley smelled almost as good as the cake itself.

Krissy gave the eight fabulous ladies that hosted the shower each a Beach Haus Designs necklace! They each got to pick from an assortment and then if was boxed & wrapped up for them as a thank you for all of their hard & loving work! A couple of the gals loved their necklaces so much they put them on right then & modeled for everyone! Krissy also gifted the little hostesses with Beach Princess Jewelry. They loved their little necklaces full of sparkling crowns, bunnies, hearts & bumble bees!

It was a beautiful day.
Then to our surprise......2 days later Aunt Krissy was in the hospital having her baby girl! She was due in 3 weeks......All is well with everyone and Baby Alexandra is just a stunning little girl with two very happy parents! Congrats to the new family!!!

Asian Inspired

There is a new adorable store that is opening in the town that I went to college and it is all Asian Inspired that we are going to be doing some jewelry for and although that isn't a style that I do on a regular basis it has been fun. I have done some Asian Inspired designs in the past but to be able to do a collection of them is like being inspired all over when you get do something different than your norm, well that is it......fun, fun, fun!
So thought I would share a few of the pieces that we have created so far.........course they are on the website as well if you want to buy one for yourself or for a present for someone special!!!

Scenes from the Beach Haus Designs Studio UpNorth

I get very inspired when we head UpNorth to the cottage & the Beach Haus Designs UpNorth studio and this past two weekends have been no exception! The weather has been fabulous, beautiful sunsets, little assistants playing in the sand & water. Although coming from this true Southern gal, the water is never as warm as I like it but for those that grow up here the chill from the water is absolutely perfect in their world.......we were barely able to keep Little Assistant #1 out of the water even though it ws FREEZING! She thought it was fabulous & wanted to actually go swimming.....thank goodness summer is coming soon!

This coming weekend is Blossom Days on Old Mission and this past weekend was just a stunning sea of cherry blossoms everywhere you looked! White & Pink flowers everywhere you looked in Old Mission and to think shortly all those little blossoms will be juicy red cherries that we will be buying by the boxes at the cute little roadside stands. I have my favorite stands of course......one has the sweetest little couple that you have ever seen, now have all of our family buying from them and they have the BEST cherries you can find on the peninsula! Honest!!!

All the wineries will be open this weekend for Blossom Days and will be doing special barrel tastings, etc with the winemakers. It is such a great weekend to be in Traverse City, Cherry Capital of the World! We have had both of the Little Assistants christening weekends during Blossom Days so that all of our friends & family could experience this fabulous time UpNorth! If you ever have the chance to go during this time, just do it! You won't be disappointed!!!

Simply Beautiful........as you are driving you can see East & West Bay of Lake Michigan with all these beautiful blossoms everywhere....

The cherry farmers work is just about to start.........Our neighbors UpNorth have some orchards and boy do they work hard so that everyone can enjoy the cherries as well as those in our ice cream and so much more that we realize.......

Scenes from our beach........we had our first beach fire of the season, YIPPEE!!! Summer is almost here. Can't wait!

I hope that everyone had a loving & fabulous Mother's Day.......I was UpNorth at the cottage with my family and my mother in law. Wonderful weather, beautiful beach, lots of hugs & kisses from my little assistants so what is not to love!!!!
