Trend Watch: Pantone's 2014 Color of the Year
Create beautiful jewelry in Radiant Orchid
Published: December 12, 2013
Get ready to be dazzled! Radiant Orchid is Pantone’s 2014 Color of the Year! Pantone is considered the leading authority for color communication from designer to manufacturer to retailer to customer. Their new color trend announcements are eagerly anticipated across the globe. Radiant Orchid is a beautiful blend of bold fuchsia and deep purple with pink undertones. It’s a vibrant and inviting color that looks good on most skin types — perfect for making jewelry! (Think about using sugilite gemstones or cyclamen opal crystal beads.) This color has already shown up on runways at Prada, Gucci, Chanel, and Dior, and it will be a prominent look for outerwear, tops, and dresses at Topshop, Zara, and Old Navy this spring. |
Pantone’s 2014 spring slate of colors is so wearable! Gorgeous tones that range from bright to pastel provide stability and balance. Along with Radiant Orchid, the vivid tones of Celosia Orange, Cayenne, Freesia, and Dazzling Blue add energy and spice to the mix. Capture those colors with hyacinth, Indian red, sunflower, and Capri blue crystal beads. On the lighter side, Hemlock, Violet Tulip, and Placid Blue provide a romantic, tranquil counterpoint. Achieve that softness with Pacific opal and tanzanite crystals and blue lace agate. Warm Sand and sophisticated Paloma act as versatile neutrals. |
According to Pantone, Radiant Orchid suggests creativity and ingenuity — so take it to heart! Experiment with new ideas and color combinations. Pair the softer pastels with a bolder hue for an au courant look, or combine Radiant Orchid with Celosia Orange and Freesia to really energize your color palette. Here’s a bracelet I designed that includes the Color of the Year. I love the sparkle of crystals, and weaving sequins into the chain allows for extra sparkle and shine this season. |
For a modern take on Radiant Orchid tones, designer Jamie North of Glitz-N-Kitz combined leather, Swarovski Elements crystals, and metal components in this unique bracelet. Radiant Orchid is kicking off a dazzling year for color! For more inspiration, check out our Pinterest board. What will you make with Pantone’s Color of the Year?
